Asymmetric and chaotic responses of dry friction oscillators with different static and kinetic coefficients of friction

Abstract The responses of a simple harmonically excited dry friction oscillator are analysed in the case when coefficients static and kinetic different. One- two-parameter bifurcation curves determined at suitable parameters by continuation method largest Lyapunov exponents obtained solutions estimated. It is shown that chaotic can occur broad parameter domains—even realistic parameters—that tightly enclosed well-defined curves. performed analysis also reveals trajectories bifurcating from special asymmetric solutions. To check robustness qualitative results, characteristic branches two slightly modified oscillators determined: one with higher harmonic excitation, another where Coulomb exchanged corresponding LuGre model. agreement diagrams supports validity results.
